Secrets of Your Scars
Do you want to know a secret about your body?
Most people think that once scars are healed, they don't have an effect on your body.
This is not true. Scars have a huge effect on how we function, and we may not be aware of it.
Hello! My name is Jennifer Benton, and I have been a physical therapist for over 23 years. I provide modern bespoke physical therapy programs for each unique body.
I am so excited to share with you one of my favorite techniques to help people feel and move better.
Most people think that once scars are healed, they don’t have an effect on our bodies.
This is not true! Scars can have a huge effect on how we function, and we may not
even be aware of it. In fact, we are often not aware of it.
Scars can…
–restrict range of motion nearby or in joints that are further away
–inhibit the ability of muscles to contract well
-decrease blood and lymph flow in the area
-create altered sensations or pain
-have emotional effects
-create a sense of “disconnect” with that part of the body
These changes can significantly impact long term quality of life.
There is good news, though! Addressing the scar doesn’t have to hurt. We don’t need
to “break it up” or “break it down.” Instead, McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release® is a
specialized technique that is very gentle and effective.
Even in the very first session, the structure of the scar tissue changes, muscles function
better, and the area often starts to feel more connected to the rest of the body. Usually,
only a few sessions are needed to fully address the scar.
Here is an example…Research on C-Section scars with ultrasound imaging has shown
that use of this technique decreases the size of the scar after one 15 minute treatment. See the website below for more details.
You may be thinking, “I have had this scar for decades; there is no way that it can
change.” This is not true! It does not matter how old a scar is. It can still change. I have successfully used this technique with both 40-year-old C-Section scars and 8-week-old total knee replacement scars.
Below are some examples of scars that can be improved with McLoughlin Scar Tissue
Release®. Some you can see and some are below the surface of the skin…
-Joint replacement surgery
-Arthroscopic / laparoscopic surgeries
-Tattoos
-Muscle tears / strains-Burns
-C-Section surgery
-Top surgery
-Breast reduction surgery
-Contractures
-Vaccination scars
-Plantar fasciitis
If you have recurring pain that has not responded well to other treatments, let’s see
whether your scar may have something to do with it.
